Spirits Academy invites Australia’s bartending community to compete in the 2026 Bartender of the Year competition, taking place during Sydney Bar Week on Tuesday 15 September 2026.
Following the completion of the daytime competition rounds, the top three finalists will earn the opportunity to compete one final time live that evening at the prestigious Top 100 Most Influential Party in front of Australia’s leading bartenders, venue owners, operators, media, and industry professionals.
THE JOURNEY TO THE TITLE
Round 1: The Exam
A one hour written examination covering spirits, cocktails, service, technique, hospitality, and industry knowledge.
Round 2: Sensory Challenge
Put your palate to the test through aroma recognition, tasting analysis, flavour identification, and sensory awareness.
Round 3: Mystery Box Challenge
The top eight competitors will create one classic cocktail and one contemporary cocktail using ingredients revealed on the day.
The Grand Final
The final three bartenders will compete live that evening at the Top 100 Most Influential Party during Sydney Bar Week.
Using Cointreau and a selected Spirits Platform dark spirits brand, finalists will prepare and present two cocktails in front of a live audience and judging panel as they compete for the title of Australian Bartender of the Year.
