Bartenders Corner I TEREMANA

Few celebrities have transitioned as seamlessly across multiple industries as Dwayne Johnson, affectionately known to fans worldwide as The Rock. Known for his dynamic presence in wrestling and Hollywood, Johnson has recently ventured into the world of spirits with his tequila brand, Teremana. But for Johnson, this new endeavour isn’t just about adding another business to his resume. Teremana is a deeply personal project that reflects his values of legacy, craftsmanship, and connection. Here’s a closer look at what drives Johnson’s journey and how he hopes to inspire others along the way.

Building Teremana: A Brand Rooted in Legacy

When Johnson launched Teremana in 2020, he was clear that he wanted Teremana to be a tequila that everyone could enjoy, and that respects the heritage of the spirit. For Johnson, Teremana is a passion project that he looks to build into   a “legacy brand,” one that would stand the test of time and outlast him, serving as an inheritance for his family.

Johnson’s involvement in Teremana goes far beyond the surface. He’s been meticulous about each step, from choosing the best brick ovens and copper pot stills to sourcing the highest quality mature agave. The goal was to make a tequila “the right way,” using traditional small brick ovens, roasting the agave in small-batches and copper pot stills to craft each bottle. The care he’s put into Teremana isn’t just a business decision; it’s a reflection of his core values, of Mana — the philosophy of bringing people together, bringing good energy, and doing the right thing — which is at the heart of the brand.

An intriguing detail is the Easter egg Johnson included on every bottle: the embossed letters “TIJASI.” These initials come from the first two letters of each of his daughters’ names—Tiana, Jasmine, and Simone. This simple yet powerful detail underscores the personal legacy he’s building, giving his daughters a tangible reminder of the values he hopes to pass on to them.

The Importance of Quality and Authenticity

Growing up, tequila was a familiar presence in his household, sharing shelf space with whiskey and beer. The thought of launching his own brand simmered in his mind for over a decade before Teremana came to fruition, spending years looking to find the right partners to bring his vision to life. With his partners, Johnson invested in taking the time to build a foundation for  Teremana to be  crafted with authenticity, tasting over 113 distillations to ensure that the taste of the liquid was right.

The quality of Teremana is more than a marketing promise—it’s the result of a painstaking process. Only 100% fully mature Blue Weber agave plants are used, ensuring a rich and smooth flavour profile that stands out among competitors. By building a distillery exclusively for Teremana, Distillería Teremana de Agave in  Jesus María in the highlands of Jalisco, Johnson has full control over production, which he believes makes all the difference in taste and quality. He sees the brand as an extension of himself and hopes that, like his films and wrestling career, it leaves a lasting impression on those who experience it.

Why Australia? A Natural Connection

Expanding Teremana into international markets was a significant milestone for Johnson, and he carefully selected Australia as one of the first destinations outside the Americas. Australia’s booming tequila market made it an attractive option, but for Johnson, it was more than just a business decision. His connection with Australia goes back to his wrestling days when he first performed in front of enthusiastic Australian crowds. He recalls those events as “unforgettable,” feeling a bond with Australian fans that has only strengthened over time.

Australia has also played a major role in Johnson’s Hollywood career, serving as a filming location for both movies and his TV series Young Rock. During his time there, he grew fond of the country’s culture, people, and energy, which he describes as “down-to-earth and fiercely loyal.” He believes Australians will resonate with Teremana’s spirit, especially the brand’s ethos, which he captures in the phrase, “Share the Mana.” This philosophy reflects not only the quality of the product but also the values of friendship, loyalty, and resilience that Johnson admires.

Creating Opportunities and Building Mountains

For Johnson, success means leaving a positive impact. With each new venture, he aims to build something meaningful, something that enhances people’s lives, even in a small way. Teremana is a prime example of this philosophy. In creating the brand, he has emphasized values like hard work, dedication, authenticity, and Mana, hoping that others will be inspired to pursue their own passions with the same tenacity.

Raising a Glass to Shared Moments

With Teremana, Johnson encourages a spirit of togetherness. Whether shared among friends at a celebration or enjoyed quietly at home, he wants Teremana to be a tequila that brings people together in a meaningful way.

His philosophy with Teremana is simple: there are no rules. Drink it neat, on the rocks, or in a cocktail—what matters is the connection and the memories made along the way.

As Johnson raises his glass to the world, he reminds us all to savour the small, significant moments. In his words, Teremana is away to “share the mana,” to bring people together, so that everyone can enjoy this wonderful spirit.
