The Tia Maria Espresso Martini has been the classic evening cocktail since its creation in the 1980’s. It’s as delicious today as it always has been.

The espresso martini is a popular cocktail. Invented by Dick Bradsell back in 1983 in London and was originally christened the “Vodka Espresso”. Apparently one day a supermodel walked up to the bar asked him to make her a cocktail with coffee. He mixed her a drink using vodka, sugar, coffee liqueur and a shot of espresso, pulled from the coffee machine next to his station. It was a huge hit and the rest is cocktail history! Back then it was all about the vodka as that’s what people were predominately drinking in that decade. Today, it’s all about the coffee. A good coffee along with a quality coffee liqueur and vodka is what makes this drink so widely liked by cocktail drinks as well as coffee and vodka lovers around the world.

Bradsell was the shining light of the London bar scene throughout the 80’s and was responsible for creating other well-known cocktails such as the Bramble, Russian Spring Punch and Treacle.
