Matcha is an uplifting Japanese green tea made from finely powdered leaves. This eye-catching green tea features a bright flavour profile combining earthy bitterness, subtle sweetness, delicious vegetal and surprising umami notes. After sampling it, the innovators at Tia Maria decided it would make the perfect platform for an innovative liqueur. 

Tia Maria Matcha is characterized by its creamy texture, infused with the distinctive flavour of authentic Japanese Matcha green tea extract, which provides caffeine and a floral twist.  

The nose is creamy and subtle; the palate pops with racy Matcha notes, accented with a slight lemon-lime acidity that perfectly balances the rich cream character. The finished liqueur offers a balanced blend of green tea, white chocolate and a sprinkling of spice. 

Colour-wise it features a light green shade that makes it visually unique – and intriguing compared to the typical beige of traditional cream liqueurs.  


Tia Maria has been a favourite for coffee liqueurs lovers worldwide. Tia Maria customers love the classic Tia Maria taste. It was even used in the first Espresso Martini recipe over forty years ago.  

With Tia Maria Matcha Cream, the idea was to bring them something truly unique while injecting new excitement. This new product furthers Tia Maria’s twin strategies to develop a younger consumer base and meet new taste preferences with new drink creations. 

Matcha is trendy in coffee shops, and it is known for its natural caffeine and mindfulness properties. For centuries, green tea enthusiasts have raved about its health-giving reputation.  


In ancient China, the preparation and consumption of powdered green tea were formed into ritual tea ceremonies.  

When growing Matcha, tea growers cover their fields with large dark nets for two to four weeks before harvesting the tea leaves. As a result of this light deprivation (up to 90%), the plants produce more chlorophyll and amino acids, thus giving the final product its special and delicious sweetness. The Matcha leaves are then ground in artisanal granite stone mills in order to fully preserve the colour, flavour and aroma of the Matcha product.  During this shaded growth, the plant also produces more caffeine. 

When meditating, Japanese Zen monks used the more concentrated caffeine in Matcha to help them remain awake and stimulate awareness. 

In feudal Japan, tea ceremonies became an essential aspect of the culture of Zen monasteries. From the 14th through the 16th centuries, invitations to these serene and often deeply contemplative tea ceremonies were highly appreciated by high-ranking members of society.

Tia Maria Matcha Ritual  

Mix two teaspoons of sugar and one teaspoon of Matcha powder in a dish 

Chill your glass for 10 minutes or wait until you have moisture on the glass 

Dip the glass rim into the mix of Matcha powder and sugar 

Fill the glass with ice and add Tia Maria Matcha to take your Matcha time

40 ml Tia Maria Matcha  

40 ml Vodka 

How to make:  

Create your perfect green Matcha rim on half of a coupe or martini glass 

Pour Ti Maria Matcha Cream and vodka into a cocktail shaker. Top up the shaker with ice. 

Shake the ingredients together. Pour in the contents of the shaker using a strainer and sieve into the glass.

35ml Tia Maria Matcha Cream Liqueur 

25ml The Botanist Gin

75ml milk 

3 mint leaves 

A mint spring and fresh strawberry to garnish 

How to make:  

Add all the ingredients to a shaker with ice.   

Shake well and strain into a glass with ice.  

Garnish with a mint sprig and strawberries.
